"A boy smoking in brush area was responsible for staring a fire which burned about 15 acres of brush on San Pasqual Road, southeast of Escondido, Thursday afternoon. The fire, fought by nine fire trucks and bulldozers from the California Division of Forestry, caused $150 in damage to a telephone cable and was extinguished in one hour."

"Marlissa Crocker, Miss Vista, took the first dive into Vista's new $85,000 swimming pool at Monday dedication ceremonies attended by many local dignitaries at Washington Junior High School, including Mayor Orbee Mihalek (left), and G. C. Eikermann, Vista Unified School District superintendent. The pool was a joint venture of the city and the schools and was open to the public at noon today. It is the city's second swimming pool."
