CSUSM Tribal Liaison: Tukwut Statue, 2007
Scope and Contents
Folder contains materials relating to the building of the Tukwut Courtyard statue, created by artist Robert Freeman. Materials a manila folder titled, "Proposal from Robert Freeman" which houses Freeman's original proposal to create a memorial bronze sculpt for CSUSM; sketches of the proposed sculpture (one in color); Freeman's bio; 8 larger photographs of the State commemorative California Indian Seal ; and 9 smaller photographs of the same seal. This original proposal was for a sculpture of a Bird Dancer with a Tukwut at the base. Folder also contains, "Proposal for sculpture at University of California San Marcos." This proposal contains the plans for the sculture that would be created for the Tukwut courtyard, and includes a rough sketch of the project with photographs, includidng two 3 dimensional clay models of the Tukwut. Folder also contains miscellaneous materials, such as a "Tukwut Gift List" for the coutyard statue, and "Tukwut is Back" flyers.

Conditions Governing Access
The collection is open for research. Some materials have been restricted because of FERPA or concerns with Personally Identifiable Information. Select items/Contents have been reformatted and have digital access copies. Access to original [audio tapes, video recordings, etc.] is restricted; researchers may request viewing copies. The Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room is accessible by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm. Final requests for materials must be made one hour prior to closing. Please submit requests for archival materials at least 24 hours in advance of desired appointment. Materials requested over the weekend will be available on the following Tuesday at the earliest.
