"Site of LSM aqueduct", 1970-10-29
"These eight-foot-pipes will cross the bed of Lake San Marcos to form a section of the aqueduct which will carry water from the Feather River to San Diego. A temporary dam has been built across the lake to lower the "floor" of it so that the huge pipes can be installed. Officials say the pipes will be installed and the lake restored next month." "Nineteen-year-old Beverly Jama Schmeekle was killed Tuesday when her auto was crushed by a large fire truck on an emergency run to what turned out to be a false alarm. The Escondido girl apparently died from chest injuries in the fatal collision witnessed by several other motorists who had stopped to let the fire truck pass." [Envelope contains additional images.
