"A fire hydrant was snapped off its base on North Broadway between El Norte Parkway and Escondido High School Tuesday morning about 8 a.m. when a cement truck driven by Albert L. Stevens of 701 Nancy St. rolled over it when readying to pour cement nearby. Standing to watch the spectacular are Wayne Verkelman and Aubrey Vanderbyl, summer vacationers."
