Scope and Contents

[Envelope contains images from story about impact of fire season, with images focused on aftermath of Harbison Canyon fire. Some images unpublished.] "Neighborhood youngster Frank Roberts, 12, plays amid the ruins of an unidentified neighbor's house at the fringe of the Harbison Canyon fire. The house was empty when it burned, its owner absent. Frank's house across the street was only slightly damaged. An estimated 150 homes were completely destroyed in the blaze." "Harbison Canyon resident W. B. Moyer had to clear debris from teh ruins of his $15,000, two-bedroom home, destroyed in the September fire. Moyer displayed a lead water pipe that had melted from the heat, and a refrigerator "shrunk" to half its size. Moyer said about $4,000 in furniture and household items was lost. Insurance will partially cover the loss, but keepsakes can never be replaced, he said." "Utter desolation of the Harbison Canyon fire is seen in this photo looking sourth of the residential area. A few homes in the area above were completely razed, almost without a trace. Burned-out resident W. B. Moyer searched amid the rubble for anything of value. The fire burned rapidly from the west, but was being contained, residents said, when another blaze from the east moved in."
