Biographical / Historical

Founders Plaza features benches and tables and is centered by the Founders Seal, a design consisting figures representing students standing atop the earth. The students are clasping hands, and the names of the 100 founders of CSUSM are part of the outer ring of the circle. The Founders Seal has some superstition attached to it; according to campus lore, walking on the seal will prevent a CSUSM student from graduating in four years, and to do so more than once is to delay graduation indefinitely.

The Founders Plaza Dedication was the first inaugural event to be held at the university. Founders Day was a yearly event to recognize and celebrate the founding of the university and the finanical backers that helped make it happen.
