Scope and Contents

File consists of transcript of oral history interview of Louis H. Helibron by Dr. Judson Grenier, 1986- 1987. The interviews were conducted in three parts, August 18 and 19, 1986, at Mr. Heilbron's law firm, and January 5, 1987 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Long Beach, California. The purpose of the oral history interview is to ducment the origins of the CSU system, specifically to record Heilbron's participation in the creation of the California State Colleges, and his related memories.

This is a copy of an interview that was conducted as a larger oral history project to document the creation of the CSU and originals may reside at the California State University Archives which are housed at CSU Dominguez Hills.

Louis H. Heilbron was a member of the State Board of Education and subsequently chairman of the Board of Trustees of the California State College system. He was a labor

The creation of the California State Colleges in 1961 united fifteen formerly independet colleges into a single system, with a Board of Trustees and a Chancellor to serve as the system's Chief Executive Officer. The system sought to offer Californians quality higher education at a reasonable cost.
